Specialists, from the program for the BBC, found it during the expedition in the Mount Bosavi, which is located in the southern mountainous part of the country and is an extinct volcano, reports Infox.ru. Initially, scientists noticed incomparable rat when staff has watched, recorded camera with infrared port.

Seeing what has impressive size rat in the grass, the Air Force specialists immediately decided to investigate the animal to determine its species. With a special trap members of the expedition managed to catch a huge rat, weighing one and a half kilograms. The representative of the new species was found at an altitude of one thousand meters.

In rats - a thick layer of silvery fur, which, according to scientists, helps her survive the wet and cold climate that prevails on the tops of the mountains. Scientists believe that this type of rat called the first “Bosavi”, found only in the mountains Bosavi.

Beast is absolutely not afraid of people.

Recall that in February 2009 in China caught a giant rat, weighing nearly 11 kg. The length of its tail - 30 cm, and the teeth - 2,5 cm animal caught in a residential quarter of the city of Fuzhou in the south coast of the country. Rather, we are talking about the “bamboo rat”. These animals move very slowly and usually spend their lives in underground burrows, feeding on the young bamboo. It is believed that the biggest rats are found in Africa. Giant salamander can reach 1 meter in length.
