Six years before the declaration of independence of Papua-new Guinea english ethnographer Malkolm Dirk interviewed inhabitants of Papuan`s villages. He was interested how they are concerning independence, what should expect from it and what are they thinking about Australian management which term expired in 1976.

In Papua - New Guinea was a powerful earthquake

At northern coast of Papua - New Guinea on April, 1st there was an earthquake by force 6,3 points, reports AFP.

Epicenter of tremors was in 30 kilometres on the southeast from the city of Wewak on depth of 10 kilometres.

Lucky ISLANDS

If you wish to see the true primitive world, it is Papua. New Guinea, the second-large island in the world, divided in two parts one of which belongs to Indonesia (district has different names: Irian Dzhaja, Western Irian or the Western New Guinea), the second is the state of Papua-new Guinea. In a valley of the local river Vashivi lives the tribes which for the first time have seen white people in the fifties of the last century. On those territories still practises cannibalism, men carrying koteks, and women walking topless. In Indonesia works special anti-cannibalistic police squad, but no success.

The general information about Papua-new Guinea

The State Papua-new Guinea consists of 20 provinces, takes east part of island New Guinea and nearby islands: Bismarck archipelago, northern part of Solomonovyh islands, more other 200 small islands. A total area is 462 840 sq.km. The Population is 5 545 268 persons (84 % - the Papuan people, 15,5 % - natives of Asia, Polynesians and Micronesias.

MAUNT-HAGEN: the HOLIDAY of ALL PAPUANS

In the small town Maunt-Hagen missing in mountains of New Guinea, I dreamed to get there since that moment as soon as I found out about the well-known holiday of Papuans. There is an opinion that a traditional meeting of the tribes who lives in mountainous areas of island, no more than a trap for tourists, like masayian villages in Kenya. No, it is not true. The festival which is already available more than a half century is the most important social aspect. It is a question of rapprochement and dialogue of tribes which frequently live rather separately and tell about each other different fables (in this sense Papuans do not differ from Europeans). To look at annual festival tourists came from all countries of the world that does not prevent to remain it the original phenomenon.
